Condition
Under naked eye : the painting appears in good condition
Under UV light : a few tiny retouchings are visible on the fabric covering the table, on the lower part of the dress and along the frame in the lower part of the painting. A few very minor retouchings are scattered over the painting especially in the backgroung.

Catalogue Note
Etude préparatoire, de la main de Prud'hon, pour le tableau de Constance Mayer, Portrait en pied de Madame, B*** mettant ses boucles d'oreille, exposé au Salon de 1806, n°376 (localisation inconnue), reproduit dans le catalogue Prud'hon ou le rêve du bonheur p.182.
Constance Mayer fut l'élève, la collaboratrice et l'amie de Prud'hon, de 1803 à sa mort en 1821. Prud'hon l'aidait à réaliser ses tableaux, auxquels il mettait souvent la touche finale. La plupart des études préparatoires pour les tableaux de Constance Mayer ont été exécutées par Prud'hon.
