Bellel séjourne en Italie entre 1845 et 1847. Ces années là, il expose au Salon des vues d'Amalfi, de Naples et de Sorrente. Il obtient une médaille de première classe en 1848 avec onze dessins au fusain: Souvenirs d'Italie et deux paysages.
