The painting is in a XIXth century golden frame.
Under naked eye : the work appears in a very good overall condition.
Under UV light : a few very minor retouchings are visible on the left hand side. Two very minor retouchings appear above and under the R of the signature. The work is in very good overall condtion

Corot s'est régulièrement confronté à l'exécution de la vue panoramique, qui permettait des effets de ciel et une description picturale de l'espace modelé par l'éclairage, imitant en cela les maîtres flamands et hollandais. Dès 1823-24 il peignait une Vue panoramique de Paris et des hauteurs de Saint Cloud.
Corot appréciait beaucoup la luminosité et la beauté des environs de Rouen, qui devint un motif fréquent de son oeuvre. Sa première Etude panoramique de Rouen, prise de la côte Sainte Catherine date du tout début des années 1830. Par la suite, Rouen, toujours contemplée des hauteurs environnantes, inspira à Corot plusieurs tableaux qu'il peignit sur le motif vers 1850/60, puis en 1871/72 (Cf. catalogue de l'exposition Corot, galeries nationales du Grand-Palais, Paris, 28 février- 27 mai 1996, pp.157-158).
