Condition

The movement is running and the watch has been serviced by Patek Philippe, however it may require service in the future. The dial is overall very attractive with raised hard enamel printing. The case may have been expertly and lightly polished during its servicing, however it retains overall good definition and a strong hallmark to the band. It further retains a Patek Philippe service sticker to the case back. The buckle is original and pre-dates the Henri Stern buckles. Please note that it is 18k but unsigned. The strap of this watch contains endangered species; please see Important Notices for further information.

Catalogue Note

With an Extract from the Archives confirming the date of manufacture in 1946 and subsequent sale with Breguet numerals on February 4th, 1947.

This watch was delivered to Tiffany & Co., New York on March 3, 1947 and sold to Henry Graves, Jr. for $500.

HOX

In an effort to identify watches made for the American market during the 1940s and 50s, the marks PXP and HOX were stamped on Patek Philippe movements. The marks identify the country in which the watches were to be sold and the information was shared with the customs officials in the country of ultimate delivery. Many Swiss watch brands had their own import mark: Vacheron Constantin used VXN, Audemars Piguet used AYP, and Rolex used ROW.
