Condition

This early print is in generally good condition. The print is rubbed at its periphery, with resultant chipping, and the edges are somewhat darkened. The lower right corner of the print is lifting from the mount. Upon close examination, a number of sharp creases are visible; these creases break the emulsion and were likely present prior to dry-mounting. The longest crease measures 7 inches in the upper left quadrant. Visible only in raking light are several raised areas, likely particles trapped between the print and the mount during dry-mounting. Also visible in raking light are a number of surface scuffs, scratches, and impressions, some of which appear to break the emulsion. Scattered tiny matte deposits, possibly foxing, are visible along the upper print edge. None of these issues detracts from the overall impressive appearance of this early print. Affixed to the reverse of the Masonite mount are two 3-by-4-inch triangular remnants of fibrous board, possibly part of an original hanging mechanism. Also on the reverse, 'P92.00051' is written in an unidentified hand in pencil. '28' and 'B4' are written in an unidentified hand in ink on the white label that bears the photographer's signature, title, date, and thumbprint.
