Condition

This photograph is in generally excellent condition. In high raking light, two 1/2-inch surface scratches are visible in the upper right quadrant, neither of which breaks the emulsion. On the reverse of the mount, there is a small circular green label with the number '10' in ink.

Catalogue Note

The hands pictured here belong to retired hand surgeon and Stanford University clinical associate professor of surgery, Dr. Leo Keoshian.  For nearly three decades, Keoshian and his wife Marlys collected art and artifacts that celebrate the human hand.  Their collection of hand photographs was included in national and international exhibitions, including A Show of Hands: Photographs from the Keoshian Collection (San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, 1981-82), La Main de l'Homme (Musée de l'Elysée, Lausanne, 1983), and One Hand Clapping (Palo Alto Cultural Center, 1994).
