Description

  • Willy Otto Zielke
  • 'GESPENST' (GHOST)
  • Gelatin silver print
signed, titled, copyrighted, and annotated in pencil and with the photographer's 'Kameramann, Dusseldorf, Friedrich-Ebert-Str. 29' studio stamp on the reverse, 1939

Provenance

Howard Greenberg Gallery, New York, 1999

Condition

This photograph, on double-weight Agfa-Brovira paper with a slight surface sheen, is in generally excellent condition. Upon close examination, two thin lines of original retouching run the width of the upper portion of the print; this retouching appears to correct a flaw in the negative rather than in the print. The print is trimmed nearly to the image, and the tips of the corners are bumped and creased. On the reverse of the print are the following annotations in pencil: 'Robot-Kamera,' 'Zweitrecht' (copyright), 'Auschrift = W. Zielke / Dusseldorf / Kaiser-Wilhelm- / Strasse 29 / Hausa-Eisen-Haus / Germany.'
