Catalogue Note

The recto of this drawing appears to be a study from life and depicts a young man holding a short stick with his right hand while pretending to play a stringed instrument.  The subtle and soft use of the red chalk, and the strongly contrasted areas of light and shade, are similar to the style of Aniello Falcone.  Although delicately drawn, this image has a strong effect, as do many of Falcone's figure studies.
