Window mounted. In good condition. Some faint brown staining, more visible in the upper section of the sheet. Medium remains fresh and image strong.

Catalogue Note
Van Goyen's dune landscapes from this period include some of his most delightful and atmospheric drawings. They usually depict, as here, animated scenes of fisherfolk returning from the shore, often with the churches of seaside villages such as Scheveningen in the background. Rather comparable drawings, both dating from the same year, are in the Albertina, Vienna, and the Boijmans van Beuningen Museum, Rotterdam.1
