Catalogue Note
We are grateful to Alastair Laing who, having seen the drawing in the original, has confirmed the attribution to Boucher. He believes this to be an unfinished study. The subject is one which Boucher treated in both drawings and engravings; for similar drawings, see A. Ananoff, L'oeuvre dessiné de Boucher, Paris 1966, figs. 30 and 31.
