Catalogue Note
This portrait, executed in gouache, is rare in Jean Baptiste Huet's oeuvre. He is predominantly known for his pastoral landscapes and studies of animals. In this 'cabinet miniature' portrait, he captures the sweetness of youth and gives his sitter an idyllic innocence. The facial type is typical of many of his compositions and can be compared with another gouache, La Declaration, sold in these Rooms, 26 November 1979, lot 553.
