Catalogue Note
The cross hatching in the present sheet is typical of Fontebasso's pen studies, and demonstrates the influence of his teacher, Sebastiano Ricci. The boy standing in a niche was probably intended as a trompe l'oeil decoration in a palace or a villa, and is reminiscent of Paolo Veronese.
