"I guess there was a little bit of a slight rebellion, maybe a little bit of renegade desire that made me realize at some point in my adolescence that I really liked pictures that told stories of things--genre paintings, historical paintings--the sort of derivatives we get in contemporary society." - Kara Walker
This work is in good condition overall. There are artist's pinholes along the top edge and a slight undulation to the sheet, which is inherent to the artist's working method. There are three spots along the bottom edge where brown tape has been adhered to the sheet, and on the right-most spot, the paper is slightly lighter in color when the tape was partially torn off. There are scattered graphite smudges throughout, which appear to be by the artist's hand. Toward the left center, the paper has creased slightly, resulting in 3 hairline cracks. The sheet is hinged verso to the matte, intermittently along the eges. Framed under Plexiglas.
