Condition

The painting is in good condition overall, as is the canvas. There is evidence of retouching and craquelures, which have been stabilized. The craquelures occur mainly on the darker areas, but the paint layers are in a stable condition. Under ultraviolet light inspection, there are some areas of retouching in general. The colours of the actual painting are richer in reality. Framed.

Catalogue Note

"Best of all, Hendra's people, particularly towards the end of his life, are people with a leisurely approach to life and generous time on their hands. In Hendra's paintings, this time is spent outside, in the shade of a banyan tree, on a bluff with a view, across the land of mountains, beaches and oceans, with all the elements of the world present, in symphonic satiation."
