Condition
The paint surface has been varnished. The painting is in overall excellent condition. There is minor paint loss around the edges of the canvas. Some pigments fluoresce under UV, but this could be due to varnish. Unframed.

The present lot was once in the collection of William Copley, a Surrealist artist, gallerist, and promoter of artists such as Man Ray, Max Ernst, and Roberto Matta. His collection of Surrealist art was sold at Sotheby’s in New York on 5-6 November, 1979 for $6.7 million, including Man Ray's Observatory Time (The Lovers) for $825,000.
