  • Two colour lithographs illustrating stories from the Arabian Nights depicting Aladdin and the magic lamp and Sinbad the Sailor.
  • both signed with initials in Cyrillic and in full in Latin, dated 1932 in the plate; one numbered 4 l.l. and incribed in Latin with the name of the publisher l.r.; one numbered 2 l.r.
  • image sizes: 32 by 91cm, 12 1/2 by 35 3/4 in.

Condition

There are a number of repaired tears and creases with associated paint loss in places to both works. There are small losses to the sheet e.g to the border above the ship in the upper right corner. Both sheets have discoloured. There are spots of foxing and small areas of water staining to both sheets. Held in a matching wooden gold painted frames under glass. Unexamined out of frames.

Catalogue Note

These lithographs were published by Fernand Nathan in Paris after Bilibin's series of murals depicting scenes from The Arabian Nights (1931-1932).

A number of prints from the Arabian Nights series hand-coloured by the artist are in The State Russian Museum, St Petersburg.
