Condition
There are small losses to the relief to the top and bottom edges and a nother small chip to the right of the word new. The surface is dirty. There are patches of aged craquelure to the left of the sitter's face. With a metal boarder and the back is covered with red fabric. UV light reveals no apparent retouching. Unframed

Catalogue Note
It is likely that Tiomkin first met David Burliuk and acquired the offered lot during his first concert tour of the United States which lasted from 1924-1928. Burliuk later published his 1927 portrait of Tiomkin in Russkie khudozhniki v Amerike (1928), a journal dedicated to the developments in the fine, decorative and dramatic arts within the Russian émigré community after 1917.
