Condition

There is a tear approximately 2cm in length to the upper left corner of the paper border and a number of creases to the left and right edges. There is a small tear to the bottom right hand edge of the sheet. Both the border and the sheet are uneven and have discoloured. There are two spots of foxing near the cutlery. Held in a wooden black and gold painted frame under Plexiglas. Unexamined out of frame.

Catalogue Note

The offered lot is closely related to Annenkov's collage The Newspaper from 1917 in the State Tretyakov Gallery, Moscow, which illustrated Kuzmin's short story The Imaginary House in the journal Argus in 1917. A second variant appears in Portrety (1922) on p.48.
