Catalogue Note
The offered lot was rediscovered in a Latvian collection. In December 1932 four works by Vasily Polenov were exhibited in Vystavka russkoi zhivopisi dvukh poslednykh stoletii at the Riga City Art Museum, including Osenny peizazh from the collection of Leo Maskovsky, which may refer to the offered lot. The Oka river near Polenov's estate at Behkovo was one of his favourite subjects. The golden palette and quick, dry brushwork is characteristic of his plein air landscapes.
