Condition

The canvas has been lined. There is a layer of surface dirt. There are fine lines of craquelure in places to the impasto and evidence of restoration in places to the inner frame edge. UV lights reveals scattered retouching throughout the work with larger areas of retouching to the corners and along the edges. Held in a wooden frame with gold painted plaster moulding. Unexamined out of frame.

Catalogue Note

In his 1914 encyclopaedia of Russian artists, Sergei Kondakov notes that Vladimir Plotnikov graduated from the Imperial Academy of Arts in 1897, and received a medal for a painting titled In the Bath House.
