Catalogue Note

Winterhalter painted four portraits of Grand Duchess Olga (1822-1892), the second daughter of Nicholas I,  in the years following her marriage to Karl Friedrich Alexander, Crown Prince of Württemberg in 1846. The offered lot relates closely to Winterhalter's oil portrait of 1856 showing the Grand Duchess seated and holding two roses.
