Catalogue Note
Baron Emmanuel Nolde (1854-1909), who aided in the attempts to reform the imperial government in 1905 and 1906, served on several higher state committees advising Emperor Nicholas II, including managing the affairs of the Committee of Ministers (Komitet Ministrov) under Count Sergei Witte (1849-1915). This magnificent lamp with its fine neoclassical fittings, a gift to the Baron from members of his staff, was an appropriate tribute to a distinguished jurist and statesman.
