of lozenge form, the brooch centered by an antique cushion-cut diamond weighing approximately 4.15 carats, further set with numerous old mine and rose-cut diamonds weighing approximately 6.75 carats
Condition
The center cushion-cut diamond is approximately L-M color and SI clarity. A chip and feather present near the bezel setting. Additional diamonds are approximately L-N color and SI-I clarity.

Catalogue Note
The legacy of Fabergé and the St. Petersburg jewelers continued in Helsinki after the 1917 Revolution, as this magnificent brooch so vividly demonstrates. It is possible that this splendid ornament was designed by Oskar Woldemar Pihl (1890-1959), who was employed in the reinvigorated firm of A. Tillander, reestablished in the new independent Finnish capital under the direction of Alexander Tillander (1870-1943). Oskar Woldemar Pihl, son of the Fabergé workmaster Oscar Pihl (1860-1897), brother to designer Alma Pihl (1888-1976), and nephew to Albert Holmström, found work in his uncle's workshop until political upheaval in Russia interrupted his education. He eventually completed art school in Helsinki and began working for the firm Tillander where he became chief designer. On the Tillander firm, see U. Tillander-Godenhielm, "A.
