The surface of the work is in generally good condition. Pressed craquelure throughout, most apparent in the center of the picture, with varnish sunk into the cracks in several areas, the varnish separating and bubbling in an area at the far left of the picture. A few losses along the bottom edge and upper left, probably due to frame abrasion, a small abraded area beneath the head of the rabbit at left, and left of the tree. A black accretion center right. The verso with craquelure lifting slightly in an area upper left, uneven varnish, and losses to the edges. Work on panel: Craquelure throughout, the uneven varnish separating in areas of the background. Tiny small losses visible throughout the dog, the dead pheasant and the dead hare, also in the foreground at bottom and in the sky. The panel slightly warped.
