Condition
The canvas is lined. The surface of the work is in reasonably good condition apart from an area of warping in the canvas upper right, stretcher bar marks and frame abrasion around the edges of the canvas. A small repair in the sky at left, and a few further small repairs scattered in the background. Apparent craquelure in the black hat and along the bottom stretcher mark. Under UV: Repaint along the left edge of the canvas and a few spots on the dog, with older repaint in its face. The background and curtain with a few further spots of repaint and dripping varnish, the latter apparent especially beneath the black hat.
