Condition

The canvas has been stiffly lined. The surface of the work is in good condition apart from pigment separation mostly in the lower half of the canvas, in particular in the white spaniel and the terrier, as well as in the foreground; also in the fireplace at left, extending into the mantlepiece upper left, and in the round pot upper right. A thick varnish overall. Ready to hang. Terrier: 10 by 8 1/8 in.; 25.4 by 20.7 cm. Stiffly lined. The surface of the work is in good condition with a thick varnish. A few minor abraded areas above the dog's head near the top edge of the canvas, and bottom left. Under UV: Newer repaint along the right and left sides of the canvas, in the background above the dog, in the dog's collar and along the outline of its nose, and near the bottom edge at center.
