Condition
The canvas is unlined. The surface of the work is in generally good condition apart from stretcher bar marks, apparent craquelure throughout and pigment separation visible primarily in the sky. The varnish has sunk into the craquelure and is visible on the reverse. The stretcher pressing on the canvas lower right. Under UV: inpainting throughout, especially in the sky, and to address craquelure throughout.
W. Parr Bulldogs: signed W. Parr and dated Dublin 1823 lower right. 8 3/4 by 10 3/4 in.; 22.2 by 27.3 cm. The surface of the work is in good condition, apart from a crack in the panel upper right, craquelure visible in the sky. A thick uneven varnish throughout, which has sunk into the craquelure and the grain of the wood panel. Ready to hang. Under UV: a few small areas of inpainting, namely in the fence and along the crack in the upper panel.
