Condition

The canvases are unlined, the inner wooden frame nailed to the stretcher. The surface of the works is in good condition overall, apart from the following. Spaniels: Repaired tears or cracks in the paint include two longer diagonal cracks on and beside the white dog's shoulder, two vertical cracks at center, and two horizontal scratches through the paint upper right. Frame abrasion to the edges. The lower left corner with cracks, losses, visible inpainting and/or accretions. Terriers: Surface dirt and accretions throughout. The canvas creased along the top and bottom edges. Frame abrasion to the edges. Under UV: The spaniels with old repaint in the corners, and possibly a tiny amount of repaint addressing old frame abrasion. Both would benefit from a light cleaning.
