Provenance

Christie's New York, June 4, 1982, lot 253, titled Pointer in a Landscape

Condition

The canvas is lined. The surface of the work is in generally good condition, although the surface is somewhat pressed and abraded with an uneven, dry varnish. Apparent craquelure and pigment separation in the lower half of the picture with the varnish sunk into the cracks and some lifting, a small loss at right. Under UV light: Repaint throughout the ground and pond, a few scattered spots in and above the dog, areas of old repaint scattered in the sky, especially at the edges. A repaired tear in the sky center left also visible with the naked eye.
