The varnish separating and bubbling slightly in several areas of the background at left. A repaired tear at center, patched on the reverse. Pigment separation above three of the dog's feet and in the rat. The foliage above the dog possibly repainted, possibly to cover varnish issues. Vic: Unlined, the canvas undulating slightly at lower left. The surface of the work is in generally good condition, apart from frame abrasion, apparent craquelure and associated tiny losses lower left; further losses in the corners, in the sky upper left, in the dog house near the top edge at center, and near the bottom edge at center; some tenting and lifting top right and along the right edge. Areas of separating varnish above the dog's back and scattered areas in the right third of the canvas. Pigment separation to the left of the dog's front paws, between his front and hind legs, and in his ball. Two repaired tears along the bottom edge, patched on the reverse. Under UV: minor small scattered inpaints scattered mainly through the body of the dog.
