Condition

Overall good condition; old repaired breaks and new plugs to tops of legs; overall with some old marks, scratches and nicks; sturdy; nicely carved fluting.

Catalogue Note

Pierre Erard traded from Great Marlborough Street in 1826-27 and later Little Portland Street between from 1837 where he traded as a pianoforte and music stand maker.

An identical music stand in satinbirch is illustrated in C. Gilbert, The Pictorial Dictionary of English Furniture, 1770-1840, London 1996, p. 195, pl. 326. A penwork music stand by Erard was sold Bonhams London, Fine English Furniture and Works of Art, 18 November 2009, lot 129 which related to a music stand inscribed 'ERARDS, 18 G Marlborough Str. LONDON, in the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum, London.  An almost identical stand was sold in these rooms, April 16, 2005, lot 129.
