Description

  • Laura Gilpin
  • 'THE GARDEN OF THE GODS'
  • Gelatin silver print
waxed platinum print, signed, titled, dated, copyrighted, and annotated 'Colorado Springs, Colo.' in ink on the reverse, affixed along the upper edge only to a paper mount, signed and dated in pencil on the mount, 1919

Condition

This beautiful photograph has a rich warm tonality and surface with a light texture and sheen. It appears to be in generally excellent condition. There is a slight sheen to its surface, suggesting that Gilpin waxed it. Upon very close examination, 3 faint sharp creases are visible in the upper left quadrant. The print is affixed along its upper edge to a thin cream-colored debossed paper mount. The mount is age-appropriately darkened overall except at the central area covered by the print. This print is accompanied by a thin paper backboard that is unevenly age-darkened overall. On the reverse of the backboard is a small paper label with printed suggestions for framing, possibly from the photographer.
