Description

  • Ruth Bernhard
  • 'IN BOX - VERTICAL'
  • Gelatin silver print
mounted, signed in pencil on the mount, signed and titled in pencil and with the photographer's monogram stamp on the reverse, framed, 1962 (The Eternal Body, pl. 20)

Provenance

Acquired from J. Hunt Galleries, Minneapolis, 1980

Condition

This photograph is in generally excellent condition. Upon close examination, the following are visible: a few small deposits of original retouching overall; a tiny raised area to the left of the sitter, where a particle was likely trapped between the print and mount; and an 1/8-inch scratch that does appear to break the emulsion in the upper left quadrant. The print is mounted to thick off-white board that is very slightly age-darkened at the edges and at the print's periphery. There are two 2-inch pieces of linen tape and one 6-and-1/4-inch piece of double-sided tape along the upper edge of the mount.
