Description
- Frederick H. Evans
- '[YORK MINSTER] INTO THE TRANSEPT'
- Platinum print
platinum print, on a hand-ruled light green paper mount, titled in pencil and with the photographer's monogram blindstamp on the mount, on a secondary textured paper mount, the photographer's letterpress bookplate on the reverse, framed, 1899
Provenance
Acquired by the present owner from the photographer's son, Evan Evans, 1973
Condition
This rich, finely detailed print, on matte-surface paper and laid on a paper mount, is in generally excellent condition. Upon very close examination, a 1/4-inch tear is barely visible along the left upper print edge.
The secondary, textured mount was likely added later, likely by the photographer's son, Evan Evans. 'York Minister' is written in an unidentified hand in pencil on this mount. It is lightly soiled from handling, primarily at the periphery and on the reverse. Also on the reverse are a few light yellow deposits, possibly old adhesive that is no longer active. '14214 and '73.43.21' are written in an unidentified hand in pencil on the reverse.
