Album petit in-folio oblong avec 20 tirages albuminés contrecollés individuellement sur carton. Sur la première page, annoté To my darling Ally Rouen 31st May 1849 à l'encre noire d'une main inconnue. Percaline rouge, titre doré sur le premier plat, décor à froid.

Condition

The prints in very good condition. The first print in the album is slightly yellowed in the upper area, with light foxing and two long very light scratches going from the upper right corner down to the lower left portion, visible in raking light only. Apart from occasional very light silvering and very light superficial rubbing on a few prints, the prints are in very good condition. The album bears signs of use and age, the corners are bumped and the spine is torn at the upper edge, the binding with some dirt stains. Some of the album cards are loose.

Catalogue Note

Malgré la dédicace de 1849 il est fort probable que l'ensemble des photographies de cet album puisse être daté entre 1865 et 1868. Ce sont les motifs représentés qui donnent lieu à cette hypothèse, tel que la statue de Napoléon Ier sur la place de l'Hôtel de ville qui fut inaugurée le 15 août 1865. L'autre photographie pouvant servir d'indice pour la datation est une vue de la cathédrale dont la flèche est inachevée. Les travaux reprennent officiellement en 1868 lors de la visite de Napoléon III, et la flèche est terminée en 1876.
