Condition

This piece is in very good condition. It has been professionally cleaned and cased in an original American case. It is obviously gold-toned. With light superficial scratches spread across the surface and a few more visible scratches of approx. 2 cm in the right portion of the image. No oxidation visible.

Catalogue Note

Ce daguerréotype anonyme a pour sujet une belle vue sur l'ancienne gare des Chemins de fer de l'Ouest à Saint-Germain-en-Laye près de Paris, construite par Alfred Armand et ouverte au public le 14 avril 1847. Le Château-Vieux de Saint-Germain-en-Laye construit par Mansart dont l'angle nord-ouest est visible dans la partie droite de l'image, fut utilisé, de 1836 au 10  juillet 1855, sous les ordres de Louis-Philippe comme pénitencier militaire, comme en témoigne le soldat en garde devant l'entrée de l'enceinte. Ces informations nous permettent de dater ce daguerréotype entre le 14 avril 1847 et le 10 juillet 1855.
