Condition
These prints are in very good to excellent condition. Glossy surface, on sturdy paper. Some with slightly worn corners and edges and very slight silvering. Two of the small prints with small remnants of paper on the surface at the upper edge at right, the surface being slightly discoloured in that area.

Catalogue Note
En 1887, Guido Boggiani choisit d’interrompre sa carrière de peintre paysagiste pour s’installer en Amérique du Sud où il rencontre différents peuples indigènes, dont les tribus Chamacoco et Caduveo. Très intéressé par leurs arts et coutumes, Boggiani photographie entre 1896 et 1901 des objets du quotidien, leur mode de vie ou des paysages. Il s’attache principalement à saisir des portraits, qui constituent une grande partie de ce lot.
Deux ans après sa disparition, il est retrouvé mort dans la région du Gran Chaco, le crâne fendu par un objet ressemblant à une hache cérémoniale utilisée pour exorciser les démons, son équipement et ses négatifs sur plaque de verre enterrés. Entre 1904 et 1908, Alberto Voijtěch Frič est mandaté par la famille du photographe pour s’occuper de son héritage et prend ainsi possession de ses documents, ses journaux et ses négatifs.
Rudolf Brunner-Dvořák, personnalité majeure de la photographie tchèque, a par la suite réalisé des tirages de ces négatifs, ce lot étant issu de sa succession.
