Catalogue Note
Both title and inspiration of this series A country road. A tree. Evening. are taken from Samuel Beckett's description of the setting for his play Waiting for Godot. The crepuscular scenes show roadside trees in those areas of Ireland and France that were familiar to the playwright. Using coloured lighting to illuminate the trees Byrne theatricalises nature in these dramatically tinted landscapes.
