Condition

A very pretty box. Two short scratches on lid panel at 2 o'clock (visible on photo); one on right of front panel; left hand side of base panel has had a firing problem and is partially matt - this is only on the brown ground enamel and does not impinge on the painting nor detract materially from the whole.

Catalogue Note

Un étui à tablettes non poinçonné, conservé au musée Cognacq-Jay, se trouve être décoré également de panneaux de vases de fleurs bleues et blanches de style rococo sur un fond émaillé de bleu translucide en basse-taille (J. de Los LLanos/C. Grégoire, Boîtes en or et objets de vertu, Paris, 2012, no. 85). Christiane Grégoire a établi une comparaison avec le numéro suivant, 86, un étui-nécessaire peint des mêmes fleurs entourées d'une couronne feuillagée, sur un fond guilloché tout à fait semblable à celui du lot offert. L'étui-nécessaire du musée Cognacq-Jay porte des poinçons de contrôle autrichiens du début du XIXe siècle.
