Follower of François Boucher

In generally good condition apart from some scratches on left side of her chest and some retouching further towards center of chest area. some wear along edges, probably a result of previous frame, as well as four small nail(?) holes, two on right edge and two on left edge. some other small defects, but image presents itself very well. Not examined out of frame. In a gilt wood frame with carved bow at top.

This high quality pastel portrait is almost identical to the Portrait of a Young Woman with Lace in her Hair and a Bow at her Throat sold as attributed to François Boucher at Sotheby's London in 1999.¹  The presence of this second version, which differes slightly in the absence of the beauty spot and having instead a bow around her neck, suggests the existence of an original portrait by Boucher of which these are surviving copies.
