Description

  • Marco d'Oggiono
  • Madonna and Child
  • oil on panel

Condition

Original panel has been set into a wood surround. a horizontal join runs across the upper portion of the composition, through Virgin's face and background landscape at left. another probable join runs through bottom of composition, through her sleeve and shoulder of Christ child. a horizontal crack runs just above the lower join, from right edge through toes and lower hand of Christ child. paint surface has been well retained on both figures. there is some thinness to background browns and some sinking of the darks at right side. examination under UV reveals retouching along joins and crack; an area of retouching can be seen above child's knee on stomach, and an area on his shoulder. there are retouches of differing ages on Virgin's face, hair and chest. some small ones scattered in landscape and background. In a carved wood frame.
