Description

  • Michiel Jansz. van Mierevelt
  • Portrait of a Man; Portrait of a Woman
  • a pair, both oil on panel

Condition

Both panels are uncradled and have two vertical joins which run from top edge to bottom on either side of the figures' heads. both have a small vertical crack which runs from approximately the top center edge down into the head of the figure. aside from some thinness to the hair in both figures, the paint surface is quite well preserved and the detail in the costumes is particularly well retained. Portrait of man under UV: scattered small retouches on his face and collar; few also on lower part of costume and some retouching can be seen along parts of joins and in background. Portrait of woman under UV: some small retouches on face, mostly on left cheek; some along joins and a few in hair. costume looks good with only a very few small retouches. Paintings are presentable and can be hung as is. Both in black ebonized wood frames.
