Condition

The following condition report has been provided by Simon Parkes of Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc. 502 East 74th St. New York, NY 212-734-3920, simonparkes@msn.com, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's.

This painting has recently been restored and should be hung in its current condition. It is painted on a single piece of oak, which is un-reinforced on the reverse. The top and both sides are beveled and are more or less the original size. The bottom edge may be abbreviated slightly. In the upper left corner, a signature of "Santvoort F." and a date of "1638" are clearly visible and are obviously original. The condition of the painting is excellent. The only restoration of any note is in the background in the center left, where a thin scratch has been retouched. Apart from this, and a few spots around the edges that eliminate some frame abrasion, there are no retouches. Again, the painting should be hung as is.

NOTWITHSTANDING THIS REPORT OR ANY DISCUSSIONS CONCERNING CONDITION OF A LOT, ALL LOTS ARE OFFERED AND SOLD "AS IS" IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONDITIONS OF SALE PRINTED IN THE CATALOGUE.
