  • Still life of variegated carnations and other flowers on a ledge
  • oil on canvas

Provenance

Anonymous sale, New York, Sotheby's, 7 April 1989, lot 148.

Condition

The canvas is relined and stable and the paint surface is in good condition. Inspection under ultra violet light reveals fine retouches following the craquelure pattern, notably in the central flowers and the vase. The red variegation in the poppies appears to have been strengthened and there are scattered, minor retouches to the background and ledge. The painting is in good condition and can be hung as is. It is offered in a carved, gilt wood frame.
