Catalogue Note

Stylistically this can be compared to Piola's Rest on the Flight to Egypt, sold, Paris, Christie's, 27 November 2002, lot 77.  Although it is a subject which Piola treated on a number of occasions in paintings and drawings, this drawing does not seem to relate to any other surviving work.
