Condition

The pictures are richer in colour and the contrasts are more apparent than the catalogue illustrations suggest. Both pictures are painted on glass which is in good overall condition with no discernible damage. The paint surface of the first (as illustrated at the top in the catalogue) is in fair overall condition with minor scattered losses concentrated in the landscape as can be seen in the catalogue illustration. There is also evidence of scattered cosmetic retouches to the black pigments to reinforce the contrasts and also there is retouching in the sky noticeable in the centre left. which measures approx. 1 in. as can again bee seen in the catalogue along with strengthening to the contours of the clouds upper right. Examination under ultraviolet confirms this. The paint surface of the second (as illustrated at the bottom in the catalogue) similarly has minor scattered losses which are here concentrated in the sky as can be seen in the catalogue illustration. There are some very minor flecks of retouching to the darker pigment slower right however these are negligible. The sky likewise has retouching in the clouds. Offered in matching dark wood frames in good condition.
