Condition
The painting is richer in colour and lighter in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests. The copper plate is in good flat and stable condition and the paint surface is in very good overall condition but for some minor frame abrasion to the edges of the plate. There is also a slightly blanching varnish in evidence. Examination under ultraviolet reveals an old restored diagonal surface scratch from the top of the plate edge in the upper centre running from the sky to the left most offshoot of the right hand tree measuring approx. 5 in. There is also scattered minor retouching tot he aforementioned frame abrasion. Otherwise there are minor scattered retouchings in the foliage which includes strengthening to the left hand tree trunk. The figures are mostly untouched but for strengthening to the two dark dresses in the right hand group. Elsewhere there are very minor scattered cosmetic retouches. Offered in a gilt wood frame in good overall condition.
