Description
- A still life with peaches, grapes, plums, melons and raspberries on a partially draped stone ledge
- oil on canvas
Condition
The painting is richer in colour and warmer in tone than the catalogue illustration would suggest. The paint surface appears to be in good overall condition with no apparent damage or loss of paint visible to the naked eye. In a raking light the lower stretcher bar mark is visible and there is retouching to the background centre right. Examination under ultraviolet light reveal three areas of old restored damage in the background. The first is circular and located in the upper left to the stem of the vine and measures approx. 3 in. The second is located directly about the leaf of the rightmost vine and measures approx. 2 in. and the third, which adjoins the right most tendril on this vine, appears to be retouching to a minor diagonal scratch measuring approx. 2 in. There are further associated areas of retouching around these areas, predominantly concentrated on the left and further retouching to the canvas edges. There are several very minor flecks of retouching to the central arrangement of fruit and this remains in good overall condition. Offered in a gilt wood and plaster frame with minor losses.
