Condition
The canvas has been relined quite recently. The paint surface is in good and fresh condition and has not been overly cleaned. To the naked eye the painting appears in very good condition. Inspection under UV light reveals minor localised retouchings and confirms the good condition. Offered in a later wooden black and gold frame in good condition.

Catalogue Note
Carlo Amalfi was one of the leading portrait-painters in 18th-century Naples. Influenced by the work of Giuseppe Bonito, he specialised in portraits of the wealthy and ecclesiastical classes, usually shown in an interior setting, as seen here. The elegantly-dressed youths of the present work may be compared to a boy in a painting of similar dimensions in a private collection in Naples.1
