Description

  • Paolo de Matteis
  • Latona and the Lycian peasants
  • oil on canvas

Condition

The canvas has an old relining which is still effective and bouncy. The paint surface is very dirty but appears in good condition in the lighter tones, with the impasto still fresh. The darker tones appeas a little sunken, for example lower left, where some discoloure retouchings can be made out. Inspection under UV light reveals some strengthenings lower left and upper right but otherwise the painting is in good condition, especially in the figures. Offered in a later painted gold frame with minor knocks.
